Some questions have arisen in the past and are answered here:
FOOD FACILITIES: There are food and drink concessions on the site. The prices are reasonable. There are a few tables and chairs for use but not enough to accommodate the number of students that we have attending. For seating facilities most of the students will have to use the buses or sit on the ground.
If the students bring lunches and coolers with drinks they can leave them in the buses which are parked right at the entrance to our site as we do not have coolers or a storage area for sacked or box lunches brought by the students.
There is potable water and bottled drinks can be purchased on site.
HANDICAP FACILITIES: The only facility we are able to provide is a large portatoilet near the entrance. The reenactment is an outdoor event and there are only a few paved road areas around the houses at the site entrance. The other roads are only gravel covered on the site. The ground is level in some spots but mostly it is uneven although without many steep inclines. Anyone bringing a handicapped person should call us in advance for information but we cannot promise any help other than giving information.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: Our policy is that we hold the reenactment rain or shine. Only the threat of lightning or severe weather will make us cancel it. We invoice the schools based on the student headcount and ask the schools to pay in advance as most of our expenses must be paid before the event starts.
If your school class is signed up to come the weather is rainy or bad our policy is that if your classes are cancelled that day, i.e., the buses do not operate to pick up students for school, then we will refund any money your school has prepaid. If your school is open that day and you are signed up to come then we expect you to bring the students. Just have them dressed for the weather.
In 2004 we watched the hurricane situation closely and decided to cancel our event on the Wednesday before the school day. All schools that had sent prepayment for the school day had their money returned the following week.
ACCOMPANYING ADULTS AND TEACHERS: All are admitted free and we do not need their names in advance although we do ask for an estimate of the numbers. There is parking available for them if they do not accompany the students in the buses. School bus and automobile parking is on the reenactment site.
INSTRUCTION AIDS: We have an instruction guide for students. It is several pages of specific information about various items of equipment and clothing that the students will be seeing on the site. It may be copied or used as a study guide as the teacher wants. Due to printing costs we do not make copies for the students who are coming.
